Ukrainian antitrust asks bailiffs to arrest Gazprom’s assets

KIEV, Apr 21 (PRIME) -- The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has asked the executive service of the Justice Ministry to arrest assets of Russian gas giant Gazprom under a U.S. $6.4 billion antimonopoly case against the company, Head of the authority Yury Terentyev said in a Facebook post on Friday.

“A request to start an executive procedure to charge Gazprom a penalty has been sent to the state executive department of the Justice Ministry,” Terentyev said. “We are asking… to arrest property and funds of Gazprom and declare a prohibition on their disposal.”

The Ukrainian antimonopoly committee imposed a $3.4 billion fine on Gazprom in 2015 to punish the company for its monopolist position on the gas transit market. Last October the fine increased to $6.4 billion for jeopardized payment. Gazprom has been contesting the fine futilely. A cassation claim against the decision was sent in March 2017.
